How To Take Fursuit Measurements For Your Fursuit Commission

Getting accurate body measurements is one of the most important steps before we start making your fursuit. Even a small mistake can make the final suit too tight or too loose. This guide will walk you through every measurement we need, step by step.

Before You Start

  • Wear close‑fitting clothes (t‑shirt and leggings are best). Thick sweaters or baggy pants will add extra centimeters and make your measurements inaccurate.
  • Use a soft tailor’s measuring tape. If you only have a hard ruler, use a piece of string first, then measure the string.
  • Ask a friend to help you. Measuring your own back and shoulders is very difficult alone.
  • Stand naturally, don’t suck in your stomach or puff out your chest.
  • Write down every number as you go. Don’t try to remember them all.

Full Body Measurements We Need

1. Height

Stand straight against a wall, measure from the top of your head to the floor.

2. Weight

Write down your current weight in kg or lbs. This helps us estimate overall suit fit.

3. Chest / Bust

Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keep it level and not too tight.

4. Waist

Measure around your natural waistline, usually at the belly button level.

5. Hips

Wrap the tape around the widest part of your hips and buttocks.

6. Shoulder Width

Measure from the edge of one shoulder bone to the other, across your back.

7. Arm Length

Measure from the shoulder bone down to your wrist bone, with your arm slightly bent.

8. Inseam

Measure from the crotch down to your ankle bone along the inside of your leg.

9. Thigh Circumference

Wrap the tape around the widest part of your thigh.

10. Calf Circumference

Wrap the tape around the widest part of your calf.

11. Neck Circumference

Measure around the base of your neck, where a t‑shirt collar would sit.

12. Wrist Circumference

Measure around your wrist bone.

13. Ankle Circumference

Measure around your ankle bone.

For Partial Fursuit Orders

If you are only ordering a partial set (head + hand paws + tail), you only need:

  • Head circumference (measure around the forehead, above the ears)
  • Hand length (from wrist to tip of middle finger)
  • Hand width (across the knuckles, fingers together)
  • Wrist circumference

Common Mistakes To Avoid

  1. Pulling the tape too tight. The tape should sit flat against your skin, but you should still be able to slide one finger underneath.
  2. Measuring over thick clothes. Always measure over thin clothing or bare skin.
  3. Guessing numbers. If you are unsure about a measurement, measure it again. It only takes a few extra seconds.
  4. Forgetting to send photos. Along with your numbers, send us 2–3 full body photos (front, side, back). This helps us double‑check that your measurements make sense.

After You Finish

Double‑check your list against the measurements above. Send us all the numbers together in one message, along with your full body photos. We will review everything and let you know if anything looks off before we start production.

Accurate measurements mean a better fitting fursuit — it is worth taking the extra time to get them right!
